How can I access the Library online journals and books from home?

You can borrow books at the Library desk (bldg. 52/1-054, Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.) with your CERN card.

You can also request books online in the CERN Library Catalogue: search for the book, click on the book and then ‘Request’. You can choose to pick up the book at the Library desk or have it delivered by internal mail to your office. Learn more here.

How do I renew my loans for books borrowed from other libraries?

Interlibrary loans can usually be renewed. Reply to the recall email you receive at the end of the loan period and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

How many books can I borrow?

There is no maximum. Borrow as many as you want!

I cannot renew a loan. Could you help me?

For books that are reserved by someone else, a renewal is not possible. Please bring or send back the book to the Library.
You can check if an ebook is available or place a new reservation in the CERN Library Catalogue.

I did not find the book/article I needed in the CERN Library Catalogue or on the CERN Document Server (CDS). What can I do?

I do not work for CERN but I am looking for a place to study. Can I come to the CERN Library?

Access to the CERN site is only possible for people with a valid access card.

I returned my books but they still appear on my termination sheet. What should I do?

EDH termination sheets are not updated automatically. Please contact us: library.desk@cern.ch to get it signed.

I would like to purchase a book. How do I order?

What happens if I do not return my book?

If you lose a book then we may ask you to purchase a replacement, this can be a second hand copy.
If you leave CERN without returning your book, we may ask your supervisor for a budget code to cover the cost of replacement.
