Opening hours

  • Library is accessible to the CERN community 24/7.
  • Library desk (loans, returns, enquiries): Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The Library & Bookshop are located in building 52, first floor, on the Meyrin campus, and is only accessible to people with the appropriate access permissions: https://sce-dep.web.cern.ch/security/access

Find us from the reception

Borrowing a book outside of opening hours:

  • You can ask for a loan to be registered by sending an email to library.desk@cern.ch, mentioning the barcode of the book you borrowed (located inside the book, ex. CM-B000123415).
  • You can return books by depositing them in the grey box next to the Library entrance.

Computers

The library has installed two public PCs to search the library catalogue. We also have four screens to connect your laptop to.

Refreshments

In the Library space there is a water fountain at your disposal. Just outside of the Library there is a convenient coffee machine.

Solo booth

It is perfect for taking online meetings and calls to avoid disturbing other library users, as it is equipped with a noise reduction of 28.3 dB.

Library lockers

These are available to patrons for a maximum session of 24 hours.

Accessibility infrastructure

The building provides step-free access, with a recently installed lift located at 1-209, ensuring accessibility across all levels.

The Library is distributed over two floors. Please note that there is no internal lift within the Library. To move between floors, users need to exit the Library, use the lift at 1-209, and then follow the building map instructions to re-enter the Library on the desired level.

Accessible toilet facilities are conveniently located at 1-102 and 1-101, close to the Library.

Cocoon chair

In collaboration with CERN’s Neurodiversity Network we have introduced two comfortable cocoon style chairs, which allow people to isolate themselves to take a 30 minute recharge break.

Sound reduction

Ear plugs, offering a noise reduction of 28 decibels, can be simply taken from a dispenser next to the Bookshop entrance. Noise-cancelling headphones, with a reduction of 35 decibels, are available to borrow at the Library Welcome Desk. For hygiene and comfort, disposable covers are provided with the headphones.

Visible signage

Navigating the library has also become easier with the relocation of subject signage to more visible locations. This change ensures that visitors can quickly find the sections they are interested in without unnecessary searching.

Magnifying glasses

Magnifying glasses are now available at the Welcome Desk. This service aims to assist individuals who need help reading small print or examining detailed materials.
