In 1985 a member of the LEP division set-up a panel to advise the Long Range Planning Committee, chaired by Carlo Rubbia, on the feasibility of the electron-positron linear collider at CERN. A small team from the LEP Division was designated to study the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) project, the next generation of accelerator after the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
In 1988 a group in the PS division began to design and build a test facility for CLIC at CERN. This work was still coordinated by a LEP member with contributions from EF, EP, LEP, PS, SPS, TH and ST as well as several outside laboratories.
In 1991 the first CLIC Test Facility (CTF) started.
From 1996 the second CLIC Test Facility (CTF2) produced a wealth of results during its six years of experimentation.
In 1998 a new facility (CTF3) was proposed that started operating in 2004 to explore the novel acceleration schemes for this type of linear collider.

Scope and content
The Linear Collider project combined the advantages of a linear Accelerator (LINAC) and a circular collider. To limit the linear collider's length, the beam must acquire a considerable quantity of energy per metre travelled. The collision rate must also be sufficiencly high. Consequently, each beam must contain an enormous amount of densely packed particles and the two beams must be aligned with great precision.
Within the framework of the world-wide collaboration on Linear Colliders, the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) study explores the technical feasibility of beam acceleration by travelling wave structures at room temperature and high frequency (30 GHz) powered from a drive beam, the so-called Two Beam Acceleration scheme. CLIC covers a center-of-mass energy range for electron-positron collisions of 0.5 to 5 TeV.
This collection contains notes from 1985 to 1998 and minutes from 1987 to 1995.
