In 2009 the CERN management adopted a new organisational structure and regrouped its activities into three sectors:

• Research and Computing (RCS)
• Accelerators and Technology (ATS)
• Administration and General Infrastructure

The activities concerning finance and administrative processes, procurement, industry and knowledge transfer, human resources, site management and buildings were regrouped into the Administration and General Infrastructure Sector comprising three departments :

• Human Resources Department (HR)
• Finance and Procurement Department (FP)
• General Infrastructure Services Department (GS)

In 2016 with the appointment of a new Director-General, the sector was renamed Finance and Human Resources (FHR) and underwent some changes. Four departments were attached to the FHR Sector :

• Finance and Administrative Processes Department (FAP)
• Industry, Procurement and Knowledge Transfer Department (IPT)
• Human Resources Department (HR)
• Site Management and Buildings Department (SMB)

In 2021 the Site Management and Buildings Department (SMB) was renamed Site and Civil Engineering Department (SCE).

In 2026, the SCE Department was transferred in a new created sector called Site Operations (SO).
